Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
